Rogue Women was founded by Jen Orpin and Margaret Cahill after many discussions surrounding the gender imbalance in the arts.
In 2019, 2023 and 2024 in response to this we have organised and co-curated three hugely successful exhibitions of all female artists entitled ROGUE WOMEN. These were shown in the large ground floor Rogue Studios Gallery Space with most female studio members taking part.
The exhibition brought together and celebrated the work of over 40 women artists from Manchester and around the UK, including young emerging artists alongside established international artists working in varied disciplines.
Our stand at The Manchester Contemporary brings this exhibition to a wider audience. It shows the work of a small selection of these artists alongside a comprehensive list of Rogue Women.
Throughout art history women have been largely invisible, ignored and excluded. Our aim is to place women in the spotlight, show solidarity, make meaningful connections and to continue the discourse around these issues.
